Where to eat the best roast dinners in the UK

Did you know there's a national Roast Dinner Day in the UK? That's right - a whole day dedicated to the nation's favourite Sunday dish, as if we needed a reason to celebrate it. And whether you're a fan of a classic roast chicken with stuffing, a veggie option with all the trimmings, or a roast beef with a giant Yorkshire pud, we've scoured the UK's restaurant scene to locate the best places to dine. Pay a visit to one of these and be prepared for a hearty roast to remember - elasticated waistbands are a must.

The Bull & Bear, Manchester
Fancy a Michelin-starred spread? According to Rate Good Roasts, an Instagram account where reviewers rank roast dinners around the country, Tom Kerridge's Manchester restaurant serves up the best of the best. The Bull & Bear is inside the swanky surrounds of Manchester Stock Exchange hotel, so you can tuck into a hearty meal in a former trading room beneath a giant domed ceiling. Sunday's set menu costs £39 for two courses or £46,5 for three and includes classics like like dry aged Hereford sirloin of beef.

Blacklock, London
Blacklock - an unassuming chophouse in London's Soho district - serves Sunday roasts that are 'almost as good as Mum's', according to the menu, and they're not wrong. Choose from dry aged beef rump, lamb leg or pork loin - all roasted over open coals and English oak. There's also a sharing option if you can't possibly decide between them, served with crispy roast potatoes cooked in duck fat, perfect Yorkshire puds and lashings of proper gravy. Unsurprisingly, the Sunday sittings get booked up months in advance - so get a date in the diary and start perusing the menu.

Eat Your Greens, Bristol
If you’re looking for a cracking vegan roast, Eat Your Greens in Bristol is the place to go. Sunday roasts are served at this indie restaurant in Totterdown from 12:30-6PM, and they get rave reviews from locals and visitors alike. As well as being vegan, the menu is also gluten-free - including the most delicious looking Yorkshire puddings we've ever seen. And if you can't make it on a Sunday, they serve an epic brunch and run a budget-friendly Friday night supper club, too. So you can eat your greens any day of the week.

The Dining Table, Home
We couldn't round up the best places to tuck into a tasty roast without finishing on the ultimate dining destination: home. Because nothing beats heading back for one of Mum and Dad's Sunday roasts, or a supersized spread at your grandparents' place. After all, where else will you be totally spoilt with second helpings, without having to spend a penny? Plus, it's generally not acceptable to fall asleep on the sofa after a big meal in a restaurant - whereas it's all part of the Sunday roast experience at home…
